The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its global leadership in clean energy at the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial held in South Africa this week. Represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE delegation, led by Under-Secretary Eng. Sharif Al Olama, highlighted the nation’s expanding investment in hydrogen, nuclear power, and international energy cooperation.
The UAE currently generates up to 25% of its electricity from the Barakah nuclear plant and, through its Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, aims to support 15 countries by 2030 while mobilizing US$75 million in energy-efficiency financing.
Officials emphasized that the UAE’s strategy integrates innovation, technology, and partnerships to enhance global energy security and promote sustainable growth.
For the Gulf region, the move reflects growing momentum in hydrogen development, smart grids, and decarbonisation technology—fields expected to attract greater investment, regulation, and regional talent in the coming years.
