The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate in Dubai confirmed on October 30, 2025, that the rollout of India’s new chip-enabled e-passport for UAE residents will not require new biometrics, procedural changes, or additional fees. The upgraded e-passport, part of the Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0), includes an embedded chip with digitized biometric data for faster immigration clearance and enhanced security.

Applicants can now upload ICAO-compliant photos, signatures, and documents online to reduce wait times at service centres. The announcement assures Indian expats that the existing renewal process remains unchanged, easing travel and immigration planning. The missions handle around 1,600 passport applications daily, ensuring efficient service.

This smooth transition supports the large Indian community in the UAE with modernized, secure travel documents without added burdens.
