The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) marked World Tsunami Awareness Day under the theme “Be Tsunami Ready – Invest in Preparedness.” Led by Director-General Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, who also heads the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the event highlighted regional collaboration, public education, and early-warning systems to mitigate coastal risks.
The UAE, an active participant in the Tsunami Early Warning System for North-West Indian Ocean countries, contributed to the IOWave25 simulation involving 12+ regional states. The initiative tested readiness among coastal communities and media networks. NCM’s engagement underscores the UAE’s leadership in advancing disaster resilience, climate adaptation, and data-driven meteorology for safer, sustainable coastal development.
