Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority Adjusts Smart-App Taxi Booking Rates

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced revised pricing for smart-app taxi bookings, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and meet the rising demand for digital transportation services across the emirate. The adjustment, which took effect this week, reflects the growing reliance on app-based ride-hailing platforms and the need to balance improved service availability with sustainable fare structures.

According to the RTA, the updated rates apply specifically to bookings made through approved smart applications, including Dubai Taxi Corporation’s app and other licensed ride-hailing services. The move is part of RTA’s broader strategy to streamline mobility services, maintain high service standards, and ensure fair pricing for both customers and taxi operators.

Officials noted that the revised booking fee will help optimise fleet distribution during peak hours, reduce passenger waiting times, and support drivers amid increasing operational costs. The authority highlighted that Dubai’s taxi sector has seen significant growth in digital bookings, with more residents and visitors choosing app-based services over traditional street-hailing due to convenience, tracking features, and shorter response times.

The RTA emphasised that the adjustment remains modest and continues to position Dubai as one of the most competitively priced urban mobility markets globally. The base meter fare and per-kilometre charges for regular taxis remain unchanged, ensuring affordability for passengers who prefer standard street pickup options.

Industry observers say the revision aligns with Dubai’s commitment to smart mobility and its long-term plan to integrate technology-driven transportation solutions. With demand continuing to rise and the city preparing for major tourism and business events, the updated booking fee is expected to support smoother operations and improved customer experience across the fleet.

The RTA reaffirmed that it will continue monitoring market conditions and public feedback to ensure transportation services remain efficient, accessible, and aligned with Dubai’s smart city goals.
