The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology issued red and yellow fog alerts on Thursday morning as dense fog blanketed several areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Authorities reported rapidly dropping visibility, with some highways seeing conditions fall below 300 metres. Police in both emirates urged motorists to reduce speed, use fog lights, and maintain safe distance after multiple reports of dangerously low visibility in early morning hours.
Abu Dhabi Police activated automated speed reductions across key roads, while Dubai Police advised commuters to allow extra travel time and avoid sudden lane changes. The fog is expected to persist until late morning, with localised patches continuing in coastal and internal areas. Meteorologists said high humidity and calm winds created the perfect environment for thick fog formation.
Authorities warned that more fog episodes are likely over the coming days as winter patterns strengthen, urging residents to stay updated on NCM alerts and drive cautiously during morning commutes.
