Trump Vows to Halt Immigration from ‘Third World’ Nations After Shooting Near White House

Washington — President Donald Trump has pledged to end immigration from all “Third World” countries following the shooting of two US National Guard members near the White House, an attack allegedly carried out by an Afghan immigrant. The administration has not released the full list of countries that could be affected, but several Muslim-majority nations are under review.

Joseph Edlow, head of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, said authorities will undertake a “rigorous re-examination” of all permanent residents originating from “countries of concern,” signalling a potential expansion of green-card revocations and deportations.

The countries under scrutiny appear to mirror the 12 nations included in a travel ban imposed in June, which restricted entry from several Middle Eastern and African states on national-security grounds. It remains unclear whether Mr Trump’s latest proposal will follow the same list.
