OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5.2, a significant upgrade to its flagship model family, following reports that CEO Sam Altman declared an internal “code red” to fast-track development in response to mounting competition from Google. The new model, now rolling out to paid ChatGPT users and developers, strengthens capabilities in coding, long-context reasoning, professional workflows and visual understanding.
GPT-5.2 introduces three tiers — Instant, Thinking and Pro — each tailored for everyday use, deep reasoning or high-accuracy enterprise tasks. OpenAI says the model sets new benchmarks across coding, spreadsheets, presentations and complex multi-step operations.
The release comes as Google expands its Gemini 3 lineup and AI-agent infrastructure, intensifying the industry’s race to dominate next-generation AI platforms.
