Dense fog and unstable weather conditions caused widespread travel disruptions across several parts of the United Arab Emirates, particularly during early morning hours, as motorists faced reduced visibility and heavy congestion on major roads. Authorities issued multiple weather and traffic alerts, urging residents to exercise caution while commuting.
The fog, driven by high humidity levels and calm wind conditions, significantly reduced visibility on highways linking Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates. In some areas, visibility dropped to below 100 metres, leading to slower traffic flow and long queues of vehicles. Several minor accidents were reported, largely due to sudden braking and poor road visibility.
Police patrols and traffic management teams were deployed to regulate movement and respond quickly to incidents. Variable speed limits were enforced on key highways, and electronic road signs displayed warning messages advising drivers to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and use low-beam headlights. Authorities also cautioned against the use of hazard lights while driving, except in emergency situations.
Public transport services, including buses operating on intercity routes, experienced delays as a result of traffic congestion. Many commuters reported longer-than-usual travel times, affecting school schedules and office arrivals across major cities.
Meteorological officials explained that such foggy conditions are common during seasonal transitions in the UAE, particularly in coastal and inland desert areas. Residents were advised to stay updated through official weather forecasts and mobile alert systems, as similar conditions may persist in the coming days.
As the fog gradually lifted later in the morning, traffic conditions began to improve. However, authorities reiterated the importance of continued caution, warning that sudden patches of fog and changing weather patterns can still pose serious risks to road safety across the country.
