The United Arab Emirates has signed a $20 million humanitarian aid agreement with the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) to support vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The agreement reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to addressing food insecurity and humanitarian emergencies in conflict-affected regions.
The deal was formalized in coordination with the UAE Aid Agency and the WFP, strengthening cooperation between the two sides to deliver urgent food assistance and humanitarian relief. Under the agreement, funds will be used to provide life-saving food supplies, nutritional support, and emergency assistance to civilians facing severe shortages due to conflict, displacement, and economic disruption in Sudan.
Sudan continues to experience one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with millions of people at risk of hunger as fighting disrupts supply chains, agriculture, and access to basic services. The WFP has repeatedly warned that without sustained international support, food insecurity in the country could escalate into widespread famine.
UAE officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with the country’s long-standing humanitarian principles and its focus on rapid, targeted aid delivery through trusted international partners. The UAE has been among the leading donors to humanitarian causes in the region, particularly in response to conflicts and natural disasters.
The World Food Programme welcomed the contribution, noting that the funding will help scale up emergency operations and reach communities most in need. As the crisis in Sudan shows no immediate signs of resolution, such international partnerships remain critical to preventing further humanitarian deterioration and saving lives on the ground.
