Indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States in Oman ended “for now” on Friday after several rounds of high-stakes discussions, Iranian state media reported. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff led the talks, with Oman mediating and holding separate consultations with both delegations to prepare for future negotiations.
The discussions came amid rising fears that failure could spark a major Middle East conflict. Washington aims to expand talks to include Iran’s missile programme, regional alliances and domestic policies, while Tehran insists negotiations remain focused on nuclear issues.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the US is exploring contingency plans involving Iranian opposition groups, reflecting uncertainty over Iran’s political future and increasing geopolitical tensions.
