Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG site may not be fully back online for months

Qatar’s flagship LNG hub at Ras Laffan Industrial City is expected to take months before returning to full operations, following extensive damage from recent regional conflict. The facility, which underpins roughly 20% of global liquefied natural gas supply, suffered significant disruption after missile and drone strikes forced production halts and export suspensions.

Initial efforts to restart output have begun, with some liquefaction units gradually coming back online. However, analysts say achieving full capacity will depend not only on repairs but also on the safe reopening of key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The prolonged recovery timeline highlights the vulnerability of global energy infrastructure, with disruptions already tightening supply and driving price volatility across international gas markets.
