Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to “give diplomacy a chance” to reach an agreement aimed at ending the Iran war and restore maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the kingdom appreciated efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway to conditions that existed before February 28 and to address points of contention in a way that supports regional security and stability.
He also praised the mediation efforts of Pakistan.
Prince Faisal said Saudi Arabia hoped Iran would seize the opportunity to avoid the dangerous consequences of further escalation and respond urgently to diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement for lasting regional and global peace.
Mr Trump said this week that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar had asked him to postpone US strikes on Iran to allow more time for negotiations.
