Majed Al Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has rejected reports that Doha offered $12 billion to Iran to ensure an agreement was reached.
The claims are “utterly baseless” and intended to undermine diplomatic efforts, he said.
“Qatar’s diplomatic efforts, which are conducted in co-ordination with regional partners, are well-known and transparent, and these narratives are nothing more than desperate attempts to tarnish the reputation of the state of Qatar as a reliable international player in the pursuit of peace,” Mr Al Ansari said in a post on X.
An Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, was in Doha for talks aimed at ending the war. Reports emerged stating Iran was demanding the release of $12 billion in frozen assets held in Qatar as a condition for moving forward with negotiations.
