Iran’s football federation today said its ticket allocation for games at the 2026 Fifa World Cup had been pulled days before the tournament starts, leaving supporters who had already made travel plans unable to attend the national team’s matches.
The World Cup begins on Thursday, with co-hosts Mexico taking on South Africa in Mexico City. Iran play their first two games, against New Zealand (June 15) and Belgium (June 21), in Los Angeles before their final Group G assignment against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
The Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran said it the ticket sales process had bene well under way but it could no longer provide them to fans.
“This is despite the fact that many Iranian football fans, relying on the officially announced process, had already made the necessary plans to attend the matches,” the Iranian association added.
