European leaders have threatened additional sanctions against Russia following one of the largest missile and drone attacks on Kyiv this year, which killed at least 18 people and injured dozens. The overnight assault struck residential areas and critical infrastructure, prompting Ukrainian authorities to declare a day of mourning in the capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for stronger international support, including additional air defence systems, as rescue teams searched through damaged buildings. European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc would propose new measures targeting Russia’s military-industrial network, arguing that continued attacks on civilians require a stronger international response. The latest barrage involved dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones, highlighting the ongoing intensity of the conflict. While Moscow said the strikes targeted military-related facilities in retaliation for Ukrainian operations, Kyiv and its allies condemned the attack as a serious escalation and urged greater pressure on Russia to end the war.
