The US on Wednesday removed sanctions on Iraq’s Fly Baghdad Airlines, according to the Treasury Department website.
Washington levied sanctions on the budget airline in early 2024, accusing it of having ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Iraqi government ordered the cancellation of all Fly Baghdad flights pending an investigation.
A Treasury official told The National that the removal of sanctions came after the company submitted petitions and went through the administrative reconsideration process. The move was not an indication of a shift in US policy towards Iran or the IRGC, the official said.
“Today’s removal was done as part of the normal administrative process upon review of the specifics related to FBA,” the official said.
