UAE Suspends Trade and Financial Transactions With Iran

The United Arab Emirates has suspended all trade activities, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice, as regional security tensions continue to rise.

The decision was announced by the UAE Foreign Ministry following a security incident in which UAE authorities said they detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward the Gulf. UAE officials later said the missiles were assessed to have targeted maritime navigation and fell into the sea. Iran has rejected the UAE’s account.

UAE officials said the suspension is aimed at protecting regional and international peace and security while maintaining the integrity of the country’s financial system and economy. The move represents a precautionary measure as the UAE continues to closely monitor developments across the region.

Despite the tougher economic measures, the UAE has stressed that it remains committed to dialogue, cooperation and efforts that support peace, stability and prosperity in the region. This signals that the country’s approach is focused on strengthening security while keeping diplomatic channels open.

The suspension is significant because the UAE has historically been an important commercial gateway for trade involving Iran. However, officials have emphasized the need to prioritize national security and the stability of the wider region amid the current tensions.

UAE financial markets have also shown resilience. After an initial decline following the security scare, Dubai’s index rebounded 0.4% and Abu Dhabi’s index edged up 0.1% on Thursday, supported partly by stronger oil prices.

The UAE is now closely monitoring regional developments while continuing to protect its economic and financial stability.
