The UAE National Orchestra is opening its second season with a major celebration of Emirati music, heritage and creativity, presenting three new works by leading Emirati composers. Titled “To This Land, We Belong,” the programme places the UAE’s cultural identity at the heart of the Orchestra’s return to the stage.
The three world premieres will be presented on September 18 at The Arts Centre at NYU Abu Dhabi and September 20 at Dubai Opera, giving audiences the opportunity to hear the new compositions for the first time.
The programme begins with “The Founder’s Journey” by Khalid Nassir, inspired by the journey and philosophy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is followed by “Homeland Melodies,” a concerto grosso by Ali Kano that draws inspiration from the Emirates’ landscapes and musical heritage while bringing oriental instruments into the orchestral setting.
The final premiere, “Lightning, Thunder & Longing,” by Fayez Al Saeed combines Emirati, Arabic and international musical traditions with words by Emirati poet Arif Al Khajah. Performed by the UAE National Orchestra and Choir, it explores themes of memory, identity and belonging.
The Orchestra’s second season, “Symphony On … And the Journey Continues,” will continue through 2027 with original compositions, international repertoire, guest artists and cultural collaborations. The programme reflects the UAE’s growing commitment to nurturing homegrown artistic talent while connecting Emirati culture with audiences from around the world.
