The United Arab Emirates and Germany are significantly expanding their long-standing energy partnership, with new agreements covering renewable energy, LNG, offshore wind, energy storage and hydrogen. The developments reinforce the UAE’s role as a trusted energy partner for Germany and Europe.
During UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening energy security and developing resilient, diversified energy systems. The partnership, originally launched in 2017, has grown to encompass both conventional and emerging energy sources.
Among the latest initiatives, Masdar and Germany’s RWE agreed to explore joint participation in German offshore wind auctions in 2027, with potential investment exceeding €3 billion. Masdar and German investment firm Luxcara are also assessing more than €5 billion in potential offshore wind and energy-storage investments.
At the same time, ADNOC and RWE are advancing cooperation on future LNG supplies to Germany and other European and Asian markets. The UAE’s XRG and Germany’s state-owned SEFE have also agreed to explore deeper cooperation in natural gas and LNG.
The two countries are also expanding cooperation in hydrogen, renewable energy, industrial decarbonisation and energy efficiency, creating opportunities for investment and technological innovation.
The broader partnership is supported by the UAE’s announced €40 billion investment package in Germany, which includes energy alongside advanced technology, industry and digital infrastructure.
The expanding energy relationship demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to building long-term, future-focused partnerships and supporting reliable energy supplies while advancing clean-energy technologies. For Germany, the partnership provides access to UAE investment, expertise and energy capabilities, strengthening the foundation for deeper cooperation across Europe’s evolving energy landscape.
