The US military destroyed two Iranian small boats in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attempted to seize an American Navy drone, US officials told Axios.The IRGC had used the boats in an attempt to capture a naval drone used to patrol the strait, a US official said.A US drone fired two missiles at the boats, destroying them and killing most of those on board, the official added.The US military did not initially disclose the strike, which Iranian media described as an attack on “fishing boats”.Iranian media reported that two fishing boats were struck off the coast of the port city of Kargan, near Larak Island in Hormozgan province.Ahmad Nafisi, the province’s deputy governor for security affairs, attributed the strikes to the US military and said a number of fishermen were missing, with search-and-rescue operations under way.
