UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has met Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema in Abu Dhabi to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries across key economic and development sectors.
The meeting took place during President Hichilema’s working visit to the UAE on September 29. The two leaders reviewed the development of UAE–Zambia relations, which span more than 50 years, and explored opportunities to expand cooperation in the economy, renewable energy and infrastructure.
The discussions also focused on development partnerships supporting economic diversification and shared development priorities. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building on existing cooperation and creating further opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
A key focus was the ongoing negotiation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Zambia. The two presidents expressed hope that the agreement, once concluded, would provide a framework for expanding trade and cooperation between the public and private sectors.
The visit also included a Zambia–UAE Business and Investment Forum, where multiple memoranda of understanding worth approximately US$2.14 billion were signed across various economic sectors, according to Zambia’s State House.
The agreements and high-level discussions add momentum to growing UAE–Zambia economic relations, with investment, trade, infrastructure and renewable energy emerging as important areas of cooperation.
The meeting reflects continued efforts by both countries to deepen their partnership and create new opportunities for economic growth, investment and development.
