Israel has claimed it warned Britain about a suspected Iranian-sponsored operation targeting RAF Fairford, a US-used military base in Gloucestershire, before the security incident there last weekend.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli intelligence had provided British authorities with information indicating an attack was being planned. President Isaac Herzog separately backed the claim, saying intelligence co-operation between Israel and Britain remains strong despite recent diplomatic tensions.
The claims come as British authorities investigate the arrest of five British men near RAF Fairford. The men, aged in their 20s, were detained on suspicion of terrorism and explosives-related offences but have since been released on bail while the investigation continues. Police found a quantity of petrol in vehicles linked to the incident but no explosives.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were “strong indications” that Iran played a role, while stressing that the investigation remains ongoing. Tehran has rejected the allegations, with Iranian officials describing claims of involvement as unfounded.
RAF Fairford has been used by US bombers during operations against Iran, increasing its strategic significance amid the wider conflict.
