Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to pay Dh50,000 in compensation for verbally insulting and humiliating another individual. The civil judgement follows a lawsuit in which the claimant sought Dh100,000 for emotional and reputational harm.

According to Al Khaleej, the dispute began after the claimant filed a criminal complaint over the verbal abuse, resulting in the defendant being fined Dh3,000 by the criminal court. The civil court noted that the compensation amount reflects the damage caused to the claimant’s dignity, reputation and emotional wellbeing. The ruling underscores the UAE’s strict legal stance on abusive behaviour and reinforces the right of individuals to seek redress for non-physical harm.
