Cargo ship hit by projectile off Iraq, UKMTO says

A cargo vessel has been struck by an unidentified projectile in the Arabian Gulf, triggering a large explosion, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reports.

According to UKMTO, the incident occurred about 75km south-east of Umm Qasr, Iraq, while the vessel was sailing through the Gulf.

The projectile hit the ship’s starboard side, causing a significant blast.

UKMTO said it was not aware of any environmental impact and that authorities were investigating the incident.
