Commuters faced heavy morning traffic on major roads connecting Dubai and Sharjah, causing long delays during peak hours on Thursday. Traffic built up early on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road (E611) as thousands of vehicles moved toward Dubai. Motorists reported stop-and-go conditions near Muhaisnah, Mirdif, and Al Nahda, while bottlenecks at interchanges intensified congestion. Within Dubai, delays extended onto Al Khail Road (E44) and Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), particularly around Business Bay and Dubai Marina.
Authorities said the slowdown was due to high commuter volumes from Sharjah and the northern emirates, with rush hour peaking between 7:00 am and 9:00 am. Ongoing road improvement projects and partial lane closures also contributed to the congestion. Traffic police were deployed at key junctions to manage flow and assist stranded motorists.
Regular commuters noted that travel times on the Dubai-Sharjah corridor nearly doubled, with some reporting journeys taking more than 90 minutes. Transport authorities urged drivers to plan trips in advance, check live traffic updates, and consider alternative routes or earlier departures.
Officials also encouraged residents to use public transport options, including intercity buses and carpooling initiatives, to help reduce congestion. Despite the heavy flow, no major accidents were reported, though minor breakdowns added to delays.
The Dubai-Sharjah corridor remains one of the busiest routes in the UAE, with morning congestion expected to persist as infrastructure upgrades continue.
