Flight disruptions persist at Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan following renewed Iranian missile strikes in the region. On July 20, Jordanian air defence systems successfully intercepted three incoming Iranian missiles launched at the kingdom, following a similar interception of three missiles a day prior. Military authorities confirmed that the recent interceptions caused no casualties or material damage.
Despite the interceptions, several international routes have been impacted. Flag carrier Royal Jordanian cancelled multiple flights, including services to New York, Bahrain, Algiers, and Damascus, along with several inbound flights from regional hubs like Erbil and Sulaimaniyah.
The escalations follow heightened regional tensions and temporary airspace closures that previously disrupted travel across Kuwait and Bahrain. In response, the US State Department and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued updated travel cautions, warning passengers of potential flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and heightened security risks across Middle Eastern airspace.
