An Iranian authority has said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice, citing heightened regional tension and announcements made by the Iranian armed forces.

The authority said on X that the closure was a response to US military aggression in the region.

It advised shipping operators and other applicants who had already received transit permits for passage through the strategic waterway to await further instructions.

The strait is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
