Iran’s joint military command, Khatam Al Anbiya, said today no commercial ship or tanker will be able to safely cross the Strait of Hormuz without permission and supervision from Iranian armed forces.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the command’s spokesman rejected US claims that vessels were passing as normal through the waterway, describing them as “lies and falsehoods”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is, as in the past, under the complete management and control of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the spokesman said.
“No commercial ship or tanker without the permission and supervision of the powerful Iranian armed forces has had and will have the possibility of safely transiting this strait.”
The statement said Iran’s armed forces were monitoring the movements of US and Israeli forces in the region and warned that any threat to Iran would be met with a response “more crushing and severe” than before.
