Israel tells Hamas to disarm in 60 days or army will ‘complete mission’ in Gaza

In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, Israeli Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs announced on Monday that Hamas has 60 days to fully disarm or face a renewed military campaign to “complete the mission” in Gaza. This “clock” is expected to begin following the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington this Thursday, an international body chaired by US President Donald Trump.

The 60-day window, reportedly requested by the US administration, is part of a broader 20-point peace plan endorsed by the UN Security Council. While a ceasefire has been officially in place since October 10, 2025, both sides have reported frequent violations. With Israeli elections potentially looming in June, officials emphasize that Hamas must relinquish all weaponry and destroy its tunnel networks to prevent a return to intensive combat.
