Makkah access restricted to pilgrims and special permit holders ahead of Hajj

Saudi Arabia has imposed strict access restrictions to Makkah ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, limiting entry exclusively to authorised pilgrims and individuals holding special permits. The move, which came into effect from April 13, is aimed at ensuring safety and effective crowd management as millions prepare to gather in the holy city.

Authorities stated that both foreign nationals and residents without valid permits will be barred from entering Makkah during this period. The restrictions are part of a broader operational plan to regulate movement, prevent overcrowding, and maintain order during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

Saudi officials have also tightened visa rules and suspended certain travel categories linked to Umrah, reinforcing that only officially registered pilgrims will be allowed access to designated holy sites. The measures underscore the Kingdom’s focus on security, logistics, and a smooth pilgrimage experience.
