UAE athletes are continuing their campaign at the Aichi–Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, with Emirati competitors taking part across multiple sports as the continental competition moves forward.
The UAE Olympic football team secured its first point of the tournament after drawing 0–0 with North Korea in Group B. The team will play China in its final group-stage match on September 23.
Cycling also delivered a strong showing, with Abdullah Jassim finishing seventh in the men’s individual road time trial in 44:01.48. Safiya Al Sayegh placed 12th in the women’s 24.2-kilometre event, completing it in 40:50.45.
In shooting, Fatima Al Suwaidi recorded 621.1 points in the women’s air rifle, while Yasmin Tehlak and Mona Al Hosani posted 614.0 and 593.4 points respectively. Triathlete Yousif Al Henaei completed the men’s individual event in 1:02:36, while UAE swimmers also competed in the 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley.
The UAE delegation comprises 165 athletes, including 48 women, competing across a broad programme of sports. The country is also making its Asian Games debut in modern pentathlon and padel tennis, reflecting the expanding range of disciplines represented by Emirati athletes.
The Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games run until October 4, bringing together athletes from 45 countries across Asia.
