The United Arab Emirates has successfully strengthened its cyber defences amid rising tensions with Iran, according to Omran Sharaf. Speaking at the AI+ Expo in Washington, Mr Sharaf said cyber warfare had become a critical front alongside missiles and drones in the regional conflict.
The UAE has intensified digital security efforts as cyber attacks targeting infrastructure reportedly tripled since the war began. Authorities have focused on “cyber hygiene” campaigns, public awareness and stronger protections for AI data centres and essential services.
A 2025 report by Microsoft identified the UAE among the most targeted countries for Iran-linked cyber attacks. Officials said contingency plans and system redundancies have helped maintain stability and protect critical digital infrastructure during the ongoing crisis.
