UAE Introduces Dh6,000 Minimum Wage for Emiratis

The UAE has introduced a Dh6,000 monthly minimum wage for Emirati employees in the private sector, effective January 1, 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening job quality and workforce nationalisation. The policy, implemented by federal authorities, applies across industries and will be enforced through labour and employment regulators.

The new wage floor, equivalent to about $1,632 per month, is linked to Emiratisation requirements, with compliance affecting company quotas and work permit approvals. Employers will be required to adjust salary structures to meet the mandate.

Officials say the measure aims to raise living standards for Emiratis, narrow wage disparities, and improve talent retention, while signalling stronger government support for nationals in a competitive labour market.
