The UAE has launched the “Water Pioneers” Youth Programme, a national initiative designed to equip young Emiratis with the knowledge, skills and leadership capabilities needed to help shape the future of water security and sustainability.
Launched by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, the programme reflects the UAE’s continued commitment to investing in young national talent and encouraging innovation in areas that are important to the country’s future.
The first cohort will include 15 Emirati participants aged between 18 and 35, selected from a range of academic and professional backgrounds. The programme will provide opportunities for participants to learn from experts, exchange knowledge, explore real-world water challenges and take part in national and international discussions.
The initiative is particularly significant as water security becomes an increasingly important global priority. Rather than simply responding to challenges, the UAE is placing young people at the centre of efforts to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
Over a 12-month programme, participants may take part in workshops, site visits, events and other activities designed to strengthen their understanding of water security and develop practical leadership skills.
The programme also highlights the UAE’s broader approach of empowering young Emiratis to contribute to national development and international cooperation. Through education, innovation and collaboration, the country is helping prepare a new generation capable of turning water challenges into opportunities for scientific and technological progress.
Applications for the first cohort are open until 7 October 2026
