The UAE has approved a new law setting 15 years as the minimum age for social media use, becoming the first Arab nation to introduce such a restriction. Social media companies will have 12 months to comply, with the rules expected to take effect in 2027. The regulation will apply to residents and visitors, including tourists. Platforms must implement strict age verification systems, remove underage accounts, and prevent users from bypassing age checks. Authorities say the move aims to protect children from harmful content, online risks, excessive screen time, and data misuse.
