The UAE’s higher education sector is continuing its strong growth, with university enrolment reaching 218,241 students as the new 2026–2027 academic year begins.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highlighted the figures as universities welcomed students for the new academic year.
A total of 64,859 students joined universities during the previous academic year, marking the highest registration rate recorded in five years. The figures reflect the growing opportunities available to students across the UAE’s expanding higher education landscape.
The country’s higher education ecosystem now includes 103 institutions offering around 2,500 academic programmes, supported by 10,633 academic staff members. Universities also graduated 31,061 students during the 2024–2025 academic year, strengthening the pool of skilled talent entering the workforce.
The UAE is placing increasing emphasis on preparing students for emerging fields, including technology, artificial intelligence, innovation and the digital economy. Universities are also being encouraged to connect academic learning with practical skills that can support students as they enter a rapidly changing employment landscape.
Technical and vocational education, research and innovation also remain important parts of the country’s education strategy. Meanwhile, 2,900 students of determination are benefiting from inclusive educational environments.
The latest enrolment figures highlight the UAE’s continued commitment to developing knowledge, skills and future-ready talent, while strengthening its position as a regional hub for higher education and innovation.
