The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council has strongly condemned threats and attacks on vessels linked to Strait of Hormuz tensions, a move welcomed by the United Arab Emirates. During its 36th extraordinary session, the Council denounced alleged actions by Iran that could obstruct navigation in the strategic waterway, warning such acts endanger seafarers and the marine environment.

The declaration, introduced by the UAE and backed by more than 115 member states, also condemned attacks against Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan as breaches of international law. The Council demanded Iran refrain from interfering with commercial shipping and reaffirmed the importance of navigational freedom.

Officials emphasized the Strait’s critical role in global energy supplies and trade, warning disruptions could threaten international economic stability.
