The United Kingdom and France are expected to launch a multinational maritime mission within days to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, following the easing of regional hostilities. The operation, expected to involve more than 10 European NATO members, aims to clear suspected naval mines, restore confidence among commercial shipping operators, and ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strategic waterway. Officials said the mission’s immediate priority is to reassure mariners that the strait is safe and fully navigable. Oman is also cooperating with London and Paris to safeguard navigation in its territorial waters as part of the broader initiative. However, Iran has repeatedly warned against any foreign military presence in the area, arguing that regional states should be responsible for the waterway’s security. The mission highlights growing international efforts to protect global energy supplies and maritime trade.
