US President Donald Trump says he “does not know anything” about remarks made by envoy Tom Barrack that suggested strikes could be launched against Iran “this weekend”.
“That was my ambassador to Turkey? He is a pretty powerful man, I guess. If that is the case, I don’t know anything about it,” Mr Trump said yesterday.
Earlier in the week, Mr Barrack had said US strikes against Iran could resume this weekend. “Could there be a strike this weekend? Absolutely,” said Mr Barrack, who also serves as US special presidential envoy for Syria and Iraq.
He added that Mr Trump remained open to reaching an agreement with Tehran while maintaining clear expectations for a potential deal.
The US President is “open and available and accessible to a deal, but he’s also been very clear about what he wants”, Mr Barrack added.
