An Indian Army contingent has departed for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the second edition of the joint military exercise Desert Cyclone-II, scheduled to be held in 2025. The exercise marks another important step in strengthening defence cooperation between India and the UAE, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations.
The contingent, comprising personnel from elite combat and support units, was seen assembled on the airfield alongside Indian Air Force elements, highlighting the tri-services coordination involved in the deployment. A military transport aircraft formed the backdrop as soldiers stood in formation beneath a banner announcing the exercise, flanked by the national flags of India and the UAE. The visual symbolised unity, professionalism, and shared commitment to regional security.
Exercise Desert Cyclone-II is designed to enhance interoperability between the Indian Army and the UAE Armed Forces. It will focus on joint planning, counter-terrorism operations, desert warfare tactics, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief scenarios. Given the challenging terrain and climatic conditions of the region, the exercise will allow both forces to exchange best practices and operational experiences relevant to modern military operations.
Senior defence officials have stated that such bilateral exercises play a crucial role in building mutual trust, improving tactical coordination, and understanding each other’s operational doctrines. The exercise also aligns with India’s broader objective of expanding defence diplomacy and cooperation with key partners in the Gulf region.
As the Indian contingent begins its engagement in Desert Cyclone-II, the exercise is expected to further consolidate military-to-military ties, contribute to regional stability, and reinforce the long-standing friendship between India and the United Arab Emirates.
