One person was killed and four injured in a rifle and pistol “attack” near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday, Turkish media and the city’s governor said.
“The attack was carried out by three people. All three have been neutralised. One was apprehended dead. Two others were apprehended injured,” Istanbul governor Davut Gul told local media.
Two police officers were injured in clashes with the shooters, who have not yet been identified, Mr Gul said.
“They [the attackers] arrived by car,” he said. “They were armed with long-barrelled weapons. They also had pistols.”
DHA news agency broadcast a video in which loud gunfire could be heard outside the building housing the Israeli consulate in the city’s Levent district.
