Qatar says it handed Iran remains of pilot whose jet violated its airspace

Qatar handed Iran the remains of one of the Iranian pilots whose aircraft violated Qatari airspace during the conflict, a spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry said today.

Speaking during a press conference, Majed Al Ansari said Qatar found the pilot’s remains on March 19 and subsequently handed them over to the Iranian side.

He added that Doha had invited Iran to send a technical team to review the search-and-rescue operations but said the Iranian side had not responded.

The comments come after Iran accused Qatar of withholding information about the fate of three Iranian pilots it says were captured after their aircraft were shot down.

Qatar denies holding the pilots and said its forces acted after the aircraft had breached Qatari airspace.
