MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia – May 25, 2026: More than 1.5 million Muslims have gathered in Makkah for the start of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, one of the largest religious events in the world. Pilgrims dressed in white ihram garments performed Tawaf around the Kaaba before travelling to Mina, where key Hajj rituals begin.

The pilgrimage takes place amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East. Despite regional uncertainty, including tensions involving Iran and Gulf states, thousands of international pilgrims have arrived safely in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi authorities have strengthened security measures and expanded health services to ensure a safe pilgrimage. Shaded walkways, cooling facilities and dozens of medical units have been set up to help worshippers cope with the summer heat.

Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for Muslims who are physically and financially able, symbolising faith, unity and equality among believers worldwide.
