Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
The call was focused on the ongoing efforts to reach a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran aimed at ending the regional war, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.
President El Sisi expressed full support for the current negotiation track and reiterated Egypt’s position in calling for a peaceful resolution to all regional crises. He also categorically rejected any infringement on the sovereignty of the Gulf states or threats to their territorial integrity, according to the statement.
Mr El Sisi also emphasised the importance of “showing flexibility, avoiding miscalculations, and allowing sufficient opportunity for the diplomatic track”.
Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian said his country was keen to strengthen fraternal relations with its Gulf neighbours and expressed appreciation for Egypt’s and other regional parties’ efforts to bridge viewpoints between Tehran and Washington in the negotiations.
