Pope Leo welcomes US-Iran agreement and hopes it boosts regional stability

Pope Leo XIV welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as an encouraging outcome of sustained dialogue and negotiation.

In a statement on Monday, Pope Leo said he was pleased by the agreement, which is scheduled to be signed on Friday, and praised the efforts of the countries that helped facilitate talks between the two sides.

“I welcome with satisfaction the reaching of an agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, which will be signed on Friday, as an encouraging result of patient work in dialogue and negotiation,” he said.

The Pope also expressed hope that the agreement would strengthen mutual trust, security and stability in the Middle East, while promoting dialogue and cooperation among the region’s peoples.
