Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he had told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi that Italy had never participated in military operations against Iran and had not authorised the use of its territory for such actions.

“I spoke with the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Italy has never taken part in any military initiative and has never authorised the use of its bases for warfare against Iran,” Mr Tajani said in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Tajani said he had called for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the passage of Italian commercial vessels still stranded in the region.

“I have requested a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, allowing the passage of all Italian cargo ships still blocked,” he said.
