Explosions were heard near the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island on Monday afternoon, according to local residents and Iranian media reports.

Mehr news agency, citing local sources, said the blasts appeared to originate from an area west of Bandar Abbas and were heard some distance from the city itself.

The report said there was a possibility the explosions were linked to military activity in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, although no official confirmation was immediately available.

Hormozgan provincial authorities said no civilian casualties or damage to residential or commercial infrastructure had been reported following what they described as new US attacks targeting Bandar Abbas and Qeshm.
