UAE Pushes for Stronger BRICS Financial Cooperation

2 Min Read

The United Arab Emirates is seeking to deepen financial and economic cooperation within the BRICS framework, strengthening its role as a major bridge between emerging markets and the global financial system. The UAE became a full BRICS member in January 2024 and had already joined the group’s New Development Bank in 2021, giving it an established role in the bloc’s financial institutions.

Financial cooperation has become an important priority for the UAE as BRICS expands its influence across the Global South. The country has participated in discussions covering development financing, infrastructure investment, financial stability and reforms to international financial institutions. The UAE has also advocated for greater representation of emerging economies in global financial governance.

The UAE’s involvement extends beyond participation in meetings. In 2025, Abu Dhabi hosted a BRICS Finance Track working group focused on public-private partnerships and infrastructure, bringing together government officials, financial institutions, experts and private-sector representatives to explore innovative ways of financing major development projects.

The country also sees the New Development Bank as an important platform for supporting infrastructure, innovation and sustainable development. UAE officials have highlighted the bank’s growing use of local-currency financing and its potential to broaden funding opportunities for emerging economies.

As BRICS continues to develop its financial agenda, the UAE is positioning itself as an active contributor to efforts aimed at creating stronger economic links, expanding investment opportunities and improving financial cooperation among emerging markets. Its strategic location, financial infrastructure and international partnerships could further strengthen its influence within the expanding BRICS economic network.
