Oman says it is searching for two crew members missing from an oil tanker targeted in the Strait of Hormuz.
The country’s Maritime Security Centre said it was overseeing the towing of Panama-flagged El Gaia to an Omani port after an engine room fire was extinguished.
The fire was caused by an attack north-east of Musandam province, the centre said. Twenty-three crew members were evacuated by an Omani naval vessel for medical care.
US Central Command said El Gaia was struck by an Iranian missile last month and left inoperable.
This weekend Iran struck the tanker again with a drone off the coast of Oman, Centcom added.
The tanker was being towed by a regional partner, it added.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed that the tanker recently struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz.
