Iran has firmly rejected US demands to halt uranium enrichment, calling the requirement non-negotiable just days after resuming nuclear negotiations in Oman.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated Sunday that “zero enrichment can never be accepted,” emphasizing Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes as a matter of national independence and dignity.
The indirect talks in Muscat, mediated by Oman, followed weeks of regional tension and a US military build-up. Special envoy Steve Witkoff led American negotiations, later visiting the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier with Jared Kushner.
Araghchi cited mixed signals from Washington, noting continued sanctions and military activities undermine trust. He also reiterated Iran’s missile program remains off the negotiation table, despite US pressure for inclusion.
